First-Time Homebuyer Program – Homebuyer Club
Building Generational Wealth Through Ownership
At Freedom Project, we believe that owning a home is more than a milestone — it’s a powerful act of self-determination, especially for those impacted by incarceration, systemic injustice, and housing insecurity. That belief drives our First-Time Homebuyer Program, known in the community as the Homebuyer Club.
This program supports individuals and families who have been historically excluded from wealth-building opportunities. By combining trauma-informed support, financial education, and peer mentorship, we provide a clear and realistic path toward homeownership — one that centers equity, healing, and long-term stability.

What We Offer
Monthly Homebuyer Club Meetings
Held on the third Wednesday of every month, these peer-led sessions walk participants through the full homebuying process – from understanding credit to navigating inspections and closing paperwork.
$5,000 Down Payment Assistance Grant
Successful graduates of the program become eligible for a $5,000 grant to support their first home purchase, turning knowledge into action and dreams into keys.
Personalized Navigation Support
Participants receive one-on-one guidance from housing navigators and financial coaches who understand the unique barriers faced by system-impacted individuals and families.
Financial Literacy & Credit Repair
Workshops cover budgeting, debt reduction, and credit building – the tools needed to shift from rent burden to asset ownership.
Culturally Responsive & Peer-Informed Approach
Led by individuals with lived experience, the Homebuyer Club fosters a nonjudgmental, empowering space for growth, community, and self-advocacy.
Why It Matters
This program isn’t just about buying a home – it’s about changing the narrative for future generations. Participants often come from backgrounds where ownership seemed out of reach. Through the Homebuyer Club, they gain:
- A concrete pathway to homeownership
- Confidence and clarity to advocate for themselves
- A supportive community of peers on a similar journey
- The tools to break cycles of poverty and displacement
Program Impact
Together with our partners at Fresh Start Professional Services (NPPSC) and Churchill Mortgage, the Homebuyer Club is planting seeds of long-term economic mobility. Participants are:
- Transitioning from instability to permanence
- Creating new legacies for their children
- Reclaiming space in neighborhoods shaped by historical displacement
